Nallikari Snow Fest postponed again  – The event will be held in February 2023 

Nallikari Snow Fest, traditionally held in the wintry February scenery of Nallikari, will be postponed again to 2023 due to the global covid-19 pandemic situation. Even though Nallikari Snow Fest is an outdoor event, due to the situation globally and prevalent health concerns, the event has been postponed and will be held the next time during winter 2023.

Nallikari Snow Fest 2021 postponed –
The event will be held again in February 2022         

Nallikari Snow Fest, traditionally held in the wintry February scenery of Nallikari, will be postponed to 2022. The global covid-19 pandemic has created unique challenges and uncertainty for hosting the high-quality international snow sculpting event. Even though Nallikari Snow Fest is an outdoor event, due to the situation globally and prevalent health concerns, the event has been postponed and will be held the next time during winter 2022.

 

We once again thank everyone involved in making the Nallikari Snow Fest 2020 event happen and all the over 8000 guests who visited the sculpture park! We hope to see every one of you at the next year’s event!

NALLIKARI SNOW FEST HAS STARTED!

A CULTURAL COCTAIL OF SNOW SCULPTING IN NALLIKARI, OULU 

Nallikari Snow Fest is an international snow sculpting event, which brought together top sculptors from around the world to Nallikari, Oulu Finland for this weekend. 

 

The professional teams arrived from Germany, Czech Republic, Belarus, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Mexico, and Finland. The sculptors were chosen based on drafts from dozens of applications. The teams include fresh faces as well as teams who have previously sculpted in Nallikari. The sculpture park Snow Art Park is once again bound the be a mesmerizing cocktail of different art pieces ranging from distinct to abstract works of art.  

 

BEGINNER SCULPTORS CREATING THE PARK 

This time also the audience has a chance to try their hands in snow sculpting. The goal is to create a large and beautiful snow sculpture park with professionals and beginners alike.

The beginner sculpting will be held on Saturday the 22nd. Members of the audience are chosen in advance in order of registration. You can register either as an individual person, a family or a group of friends for example. The participation fee also includes tickets to Nallikari Winter Village as well as some juice and sausage. More detailed information on how to participate can be found on the Nallikari Snow Fest website. 

 

THE EVENT HAS STARTED AND WILL COME TO A GRAND FINALE WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE SCULPTURES

The sculptors have now begun working on the cubes. The Snow Art Park is located next to Nallikari Winter Village and Nallikari Holiday Village. The international sculpting teams can be seen working on their sculptures daily for the duration of the event. 

On Friday, the Snow Art with Heart -event will be held in Restaurant Nallikari. It is possible to meet the international sculptors and hear short speeches about snow sculpting from Laura Lampinen, Geertje Jacob, and Juhani Lillberg. The hour-long event will begin at 17:00. 

 

As the event concludes on Saturday, the area will be transformed into a one-of-a-kind wintry art park. The finished sculptures will be lit in cooperation with Lumo Light Festival. The Snow Art Park will be illuminated Saturday evening 18:30-24:00 and Sunday 17:30-21:30. During Saturday, Saaga Travel has a shuttle bus running between Nallikari and the city center (Kuvernööri -stop).

The event will come to a close with the closing ceremony on Sunday starting at 12:00 in the finished Snow Art Park. The audience favorite will be awarded in the ceremony. 

The sculpture park and the events are free to enter.

NALLIKARI SNOW FEST IS APPROACHING – THE EVENT IS NOW LOOKING FOR BEGINNER SCULPTORS

Nallikari Snow Fest is a visitor-friendly snow sculpting event that aims to increase the visibility of snow sculpting as an art form. This time also the audience gets a chance to try their skills at snow sculpting. The goal is to create a stunning snow sculpture park in Nallikari with both the professionals and beginners alike!

 

Oulu has gained international interest among snow sculptors

 

By the deadline, the event organizers received dozens from applications from professional teams around the world. The event’s professional teams were chosen based on sent drafts. The sculpture park will feature both descriptive as well as abstract works of snow art.

 

Top teams from the past years, Mexico, Poland, and German were chosen once again based on their original drafts. In addition to Finland and Russia, teams from Belarus, Czech Republic, Ukraine as well as another team from Germany also convinced the jury. The furthest team arriving this year is from Korea!

 

Oulu and Nallikari have gathered interest among snow sculptors from around the world. Already, the event organizers have received messages and inquiries about participating in the 2021 snow sculpting event.

 

Search for beginner sculptors

In this year’s event, also the audience gets to try snow sculpting. The audience sculpting will be guided by Geertje Jacob from Germany. Geertje is an internationally recognized snow sculptor, instructor, and blogger.

 

The beginner sculpting will be arranged on Saturday 22.2. The audience sculptors will be chosen in advance in the order of enrollment. Audience teams can participate as a single person, a family or a group of friends for example. The participation fee also includes entrance tickets to Nallikari Winter Village as well as some sausages and juice. Snow Art with Heart -event Friday 21.2.

The sculpture park is in the immediate vicinity of Nallikari Winter Village and Nallikari Holiday Village. The audience can come to view the professionals working every day during the event. On Friday, you can meet the professional teams in the ‘Snow Art with Heart’ event held in Restaurant Nallikari. During the event, their views and perspectives on the world of snow sculpting will be heard for example from art pedagogic teacher Laura Lampinen from Oulu Museum of Art as well as the chairman of The International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture Mr. Juhani Lillberg. The free one-hour long event will begin at 17:00 and everyone interested in snow sculpting is welcome to join.

 

The event will conclude with the ending ceremony and illumination of the sculptures Sunday 23.2.

After the sculpting ends on Saturday evening, the area will transform into a unique wintry snow art park. The snow art park will be illuminated Saturday evening 18:30-24:00 as well as Sunday evening 17:30-21:30.

Nallikari Snow Fest ending ceremony will be held Sunday 23.2., starting at 12:00.

The world-class professional sculptures and personal audience works of snow art will be available for everyone to enjoy until the snow melts!

Cooperation is key in making the event happen

The international snow sculpting event is made possible by cooperation among local organizations. Nallikari Snow Fest is organized by Nallikari Events Ry together with Nallikari Holiday Village and Vauhtipuisto. For example, the visit from the internationally recognized snow sculpting professional Geertje Jacob is produced in cooperation with VisitOulu. A broad cooperation network makes the event possible and creates international visibility for the partners!

NALLIKARI GATHERS INTERNATIONAL INTEREST AMONGST SNOW SCULPTORS – THE EVENT RECEIVED DOZENS OF SCULPTURE DRAFTS

The international snow sculpting event Nallikari Snow Fest is held 19.-23.2.2020 in Nallikari. Right after the event was published, interested snow sculptors from around the world were asked to apply by sending sculpture drafts and a freeform application. Once the deadline was over, the event had received dozens of drafts from several countries. The event’s organizers were delighted by the amount of global interest and sent drafts, as it is a clear indication that Oulu and Nallikari are now seen as a legitimate snow sculpting location.

 

Snow Fest professional teams are chosen

The large amount of drafts posed a real challenge for the jury. The jury consists of professionals in the arts, snow sculpting, and travel industries. Their view for the choice was given for example by artist Antti Tenetz, art pedagogic teacher Laura Lampinen from Oulu Museum of Art as well as the chairman of The International Association of Snow and Ice Sculpture Mr. Juhani Lillberg. The final choice was made in multiple stages. The final choices were based on wanting to create a real cultural cocktail of different styles, characters, and nationalities.

 

A total of ten sculptures were chosen based on the drafts. The participants are arriving from around the world to sculpt both realistic as well as abstract works of snow art. 

 

Top teams from the past years, Mexico, Poland, and German were chosen once again based on their original drafts. In addition to Finland and Russia, teams from Belarus, Czech Republic, Ukraine as well as another team from Germany also convinced the jury. The furthest team arriving this year is from Korea!

 

Built in the immediate vicinity of Nallikari Winter Village and Nallikari Holiday Village, the snow sculpture park will create a remarkable and internationally intriguing winter travel destination in Oulu. The sculptures will be available to visit until the snow melts. 

 

Recognition for snow sculpting

This year also the visitors get to try their skills at snow sculpting. SNOW SCULPTING RETURNS TO NALLIKARI FEBRUARY 2020

For the third consecutive year, people will be able to admire snow sculpting professionals and magnificent snow art in Nallikari, Oulu Finland. The snow sculpting event Nallikari Snow Fest is expecting participation from snow sculptors from around the world.

 

Nallikari Snow Fest is an international snow sculpting event aimed at everyone. The event's international snow sculpting teams will be chosen from sculpture drafts. The sculpting teams will be decided in early December

This year, the event will also involve the audience in making the snow sculptures. The goal is to create an impressive snow sculpture park in Nallikari, including sculptures from both the audience and the professional sculptors.

​

The event area, as it has been for the past two years, will be Nallikari's winter wonderland. The event area is located in the immediate vicinity of Nallikari Holiday Village and Nallikari Winter Village. The professional sculptors will have four days to create their art pieces and the event will conclude in the grand opening of the snow sculpture park. The sculptures will be available for everyone to see until the snow melts!
